Hi Ryan and welcome to the Active Monash Team!
Can you tell us a little bit about yourself and how you came to be the new Active Monash Health & Fitness Manager:
I am a family man with a passion for fitness and wellbeing, coming originally from privately owned gyms I had a goal for the last 18 months to move into a role at a larger facility. When the role became available at Active Monash I jumped at it, having grown up in Glen Waverley and previously managed centres in Oakleigh it was right up my alley. I’m very happy to be on board with Active Monash, especially with such a great crew and the great programs already in place here.
What do you love about the Health & Fitness industry?
Exercise and wellbeing is a big part of what makes me happy and helping and seeing people get involved and be part of that is very satisfying. I love the variety of managing a fantastic team, taking personal training clients and instructing classes (being on stage as I’m really shy), and not wearing a suit and tie is a big plus also. I’m a big fan of innovation and upcoming trends and testing to see what works and what doesn’t. Watch this space!
What do you like to do when you’re not working or working out!?
Relax…This industry is so fast-paced and when you do actually get to take a break, it’s great to kick back. Rest is really important for my wellbeing and I try to get a regular massage.
What inspires you?
Seeing results in members, even in the short term, when they come up after only joining a month ago and tell me how good they feel and how their lifestyle and outlook has changed because of our gym or our programs, that’s what makes me grateful to be in this industry.
What’s one of the biggest trends in the industry at the moment?
Functional group HIIT classes – creating community, moving away from cardio based training to strength based across all age demographics, and the rise of “Wellness”.
We heard you’re also a Group Fitness instructor, are we likely to see you taking classes at any of the Centres? What’s your favourite class (or type of class) to take?
Cycle is where my passion for group fitness resides, and you will most likely see me on the timetable in the near future! I also cover Boxing, HIIT and Core classes when needed.
Food: What’s your fave?
Chicken Parma, I’ll look at a menu for 10 minutes anywhere I eat out and I’ll always get the Parma – in moderation that is!
What’s your top exercise tip?
Get it done early in the day if you can, everyone can be a morning person if they set their alarm early enough!
