Active Monash prides itself on having a wide range of fitness options suitable for people with a disability. Browse our range of programs and services designed to help everyone make use of our facilities.

Monash Aquatic & Recreation Centre offers a range of facilities for people with a disability, including:

  • Accessible change rooms
  • Aqua wheelchairs
  • Pool hoist
  • Portable hoists
  • Electric hoists
  • Adult size change tables
  • Wheelchairs
  • Ramp access with hand rail in warm water exercise pool
  • Beach entrance for wave pool
  • Aquatic exercise equipment
  • Adaptable gym exercise equipment
  • Parking near entrances
  • Elevator Lift to first floor

Group Fitness Classes:

All of our classes are led by experienced and qualified instructors. We have a range of group exercise classes that are designed to cater for participants with a disability. These include:

  • All Abilities X-Trainer: cross-training class, incorporating boxing, circuits and fun exercises designed to be enjoyed by adults of all abilities. Saturday mornings.
  • Aqua Lite: a basic water workout that is fun and caters for all abilities. Tuesday evenings.
  • Water Therapy: gentle water exercises in the 25 metre pool for people with MS, Motor Neuron Disease, Huntington’s Disease, Cancer, Arthritis, Heart Disease, Asthma and chronic pain conditions. Wednesday mornings.

Other classes that may suit are:

  • Activelink Hydro: gentle water exercises in a supportive warm water environment suitable for those coming back from injury or with chronic conditions, or just looking for a gentle exercise class. See website/timetable for class times.
  • Walking Group: meet at the café and enjoy the fresh air. Will run all weather conditions. Wheelchairs welcome! Friday mornings.

Please don’t hesitate to talk to an instructor or one of our personal trainers regarding the most suitable classes for your abilities. 

Health Club and Gym:

Individualised gym programs and personal training sessions are available to help you reach your fitness goal. If you are comfortable working independently through a program you can have an assessment and a program show to walk you through the exercises step by step, with a review every 6-8 weeks.
