Stay Motivated during Winter!

The days are short, the wind is blowing and the temperature is painfully low. Winter can make it difficult to stay motivated to exercise and it’s very easy to chose to stay indoors on the couch. Regardless, this is no reason to put a halt to your exercise regime. To help you this winter, here are a few tips on how to stay motivated during the cooler months.

Understand that motivation is finite.

Motivation is a feeling that only lasts for a short period of time. In order to stick with an exercise regime, self-discipline is essential. Being self-disciplined when you don’t feel motivated to exercise will help you to create a habit. Every time you use self-discipline to push through and complete your exercise session, you will strengthen the habit. When you can rely on self-discipline, you won’t need motivation anymore. You will simply just do it!

Know what time of the day works best for you.

Carve out a consistent time every day or every other day to exercise. Find out what time suits best. This may take some trial and error. Also, it may change each day based on your schedule and that’s ok too. It doesn’t matter what time of the day you get it done, however try to limit exercising too late in the evening as this can disrupt your sleep.

Recruit a Personal Trainer.

A Personal Trainer will help you set realistic goals, hold you accountable, push you past your comfort zone, teach you new exercises, offer continual support and ensure your technique is spot on. Here at Active Monash all of our Personal Trainers are extremely passionate about helping others achieve their health and fitness goals. Think of how you’ll feel when you’re done.

Exercise boosts your mood and can help improve your mental health. Shortly after exercise, endorphins race around your body, making you feel alive and energetic!  If this knowledge has you still struggling to get motivated try visualizing how you will feel in 1 hours’ time after the session is complete.

Try group training.

Feeling socially connected is a great feeling! Working out in a group can be very uplifting and can help you to feel more connected to others. Exercising in a group takes the focus off yourself, allows you to meet new people and have a laugh! At Active Monash we have extensive group exercise timetables with something for everyone. Try it out! If you prefer smaller groups, try out our Results program! For more information, visit our website or give us a call.
